Doctor Who (14 more episodes commissioned)
Okay, so anyone who knows me knows this was bound to be my first "for funsies!" topic. I'm a devout Doctor Who fan. More than devout. It's probably my favorite thing since sliced cheese. I can't get enough of it, and the beginning of season 6 has proven to be a real corker!
I want to talk about The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon... but the forum is yet empty, and there's no one to talk to. Man oh man, that second episode! What a cliffhanger ending!

This is going to be a good season, no doubt about it!

- Spoiler:
- When the little girl started to regenerate, I more-or-less lost my shit. There are so many unanswered questions as well. Who was the woman with the eye patch that Amy saw in the orphanage? Who in the hell is the little girl and how can she regenerate? How will the Silence factor into the show's over all arc?
This is going to be a good season, no doubt about it!

Re: Doctor Who (14 more episodes commissioned)
I just finished viewing that myself. What the hell did I just watch? o.o;
I plan to follow these developments and report on what I find. ^^V
- Spoiler:
- Moffat is trolling us. I swear to God. He has probably heard all the rumors and theories from the last series regarding Amy and River, as well as the Doctor/Amy relationship. There's an implication that the girl might be Amy's daughter, possibly by the Doctor. However, the TARDIS blinking "pregnant" and "not pregnant" made the folks up here call out "quantum pregnancy". That needs to get explained. Also, the Doctor getting killed in the FIRST FIVE MINUTES made me rage!
- Spoiler:
- I have a theory or two. The Silents are some kind of parasitic/domination species, and did something to Amy. They've hacked or reverse-engineered some Timelord tech, given their pseudo-TARDIS both here and in "The Lodger". It's possible that they have Timelord DNA from somewhere (Genny or the Master). Hence, I think the little girl is a created being, and Amy is being used as an incubator. Also, the Doctor just ruined their sh*t. They'll be back by the end of series.
- Spoiler:
- Theory #2, the little girl is the Rani reborn. Yes, I went there. I know others have screamed this before, but how else could they have gotten Timelord tech and DNA together? It's conceivable that she pulled a trick like the Master and escaped the Time War. Also, she's got the mad scientist archetype, and the Silents, modeled after the infamous "Gray" aliens of lore, possibly experiment and probe in a similar manner. Wouldn't it be a TWEEEEEST if they were her minions? ^^v
I plan to follow these developments and report on what I find. ^^V
Re: Doctor Who (14 more episodes commissioned)
I just finished watching "Curse of the Black Spot", and I do like the twist. ^_^
However, something about this episode nags me.

- Spoiler:
- I actually called the Siren being a medical hologram right after the kid got 'ported away. ^^;
However, something about this episode nags me.
- Spoiler:
- Who the utter HELL is the woman with the eyepatch?! O.o;
Memes's Crazy Theory #1
- Spoiler:
- Amy is actually still on the Silents' ship, and the woman is a manifestation of a probe in her mind. It peeks in to see what she's dreaming. Hence, she said in the first episode something akin to "she's still dreaming".
Memes's Crazy Theory #2
- Spoiler:
- The woman is something implanted into Amy's mind to monitor her through her "quantum pregnancy", as the folk here have called it.
Memes's Crazy Theory #3
- Spoiler:
- Given the pirate ship in "Black Spot" was out of phase with a starship, the woman might be someone peeking in from another universe. While RTD supposedly shut down the multiverse after the fall of Torchwood 1, the Series 5 finale reboot might have changed this. The Doctor even mentions this in the episode in question.
Memes's Crazy Theories #4-5
- Spoiler:
- This is either the girl "timelord" from the end of the last episode or the Rani. At this point, these are far-fetched and would need more corroboration from the coming episode(s).
I'm very interested to see the "mail" that the Doctor received in the next episode. ^^v
Re: Doctor Who (14 more episodes commissioned)
Really enjoyed Curse of the Black Spot, although I suppose it's only a 7/10 on the Good-O-Meter. It was a hard sell after the wild fun that was that opening two-parter.
The only thing in the episode that bugs me is the magically vanishing pirate. I've watched it a second time, and sure enough: one of the pirates vanishes without explanation. Shoddy editing got him lost, I reckoned.
Really looking forward to The Doctor's Wife next Saturday.
- Spoiler:
- My theory on the woman with the eye patch is that Amy is in labor throughout the series, and she's reliving the events leading up to giving birth throughout the series;
or
There are two timelines touching one another: Amy's pregnant in one of them, but not in the other, and the lady with the eye patch is from the time line in which she is pregnant.

Re: Doctor Who (14 more episodes commissioned)
C'mon, folks! Let's talk!
Who saw The Doctor's Wife? Oh, that was brilliant. An easy 10/10. I can see why Neil Gaiman is so well respected in the fantasy community. That episode did everything: humor, action, sadness, and darkness. Lord, did it ever get dark!
The Curse of the Black Spot was an okay story, but The Doctor's Wife was the real deal.

- Spoiler:
- That stuff with Rory in the TARDIS corridors was grim, especially when you start to see KILL AMY written on the walls in both ink and blood. Really surprised that made it in, considering the young demographic the show swings toward in the UK.

Re: Doctor Who (14 more episodes commissioned)
"The Doctor's Wife" was an excellent episode. I was really pleased with it.
Now, considering some of the NIGHTMARE FUEL this show has generated in the last six or so years (weeping angels, the Silents, "are you my mummy?", $Moffat reference #4 here$, etc), this episode doesn't completely surprise me in how dark it could go. In some reports (cited on Wiki), there were worries that the Silents made the show "too dark for kids", but Moffat fired back saying that the weeping angels were far worse.
Keep in mind that European censorship is different than prudish American television. I'm not sure exactly what the rules are, but perhaps they're lax enough to let the above stuff slide.
- Spoiler:
- I'm wondering more and more about how much the TARDIS knows about the future herself. The House was playing with time around Rory and Amy, but that was really the powers it stole by "possessing" the TARDIS's body. Does she know that the Doctor is going to be killed in 200 years?
- Spoiler:
- Yes, I liked the idea of a talking TARDIS... ^^; She is his first love, from Day One. I liked the interplay between her human form and the Doctor, much like that between the Doctor and River Song.

- Spoiler:
- Honestly, the "KILL AMY"/"DIE AMY" stuff was freaky as hell. O.o; It's also part of the overall mind-fuck that Amy's getting this series anyway. ^^;

I know that some British parents complained about
Mind you, these are parents who are watching with seven and eight-year-old kids. That had to be a pretty disturbing scene for them.

Re: Doctor Who (14 more episodes commissioned)
If you wanted Nightmare Fuel and Creepy-Pasta, then this week's "The Rebel Flesh" had a good portion. ^^; The entire episode, as a friend put it, was like watching a version of John Carpenter's The Thing with updated effects and a modified concept. ^^v
This episode was also a lot like the Silurian two-parter "The Hungry Earth"/"Cold Blood". It's a failed

- Spoiler:
- first contact with a new species
- Spoiler:
- more
- Spoiler:
- The Doctor mentions that this is "the first generation of the technology". Could this be the genesis of the Autons, or some subfamily of them? <_< I'd like to get some explanation for that statement.
- Spoiler:
- Curiously, the Jennifer and Cleaves 'gangers seemed to have swapped personalities. The original Jennifer is meek while Cleaves is the alpha-female, but the 'gangers were reversed by the end of the episode. <_< Is it possible that the solar power surge screwed up the copy process, or worse yet, melded them? If they're like the Autons, they may develop a hivemind.
- Spoiler:
- Theories on how long the Copy-Doctor will last? ^^; If he stays true to the original, there might be some hope to salvage this situation before another person gets killed. <_<; Also, is it possible for this "flesh" to copy an entire timelord? That's over 900 years of experience and unusual abilities, and I doubt a human construct and manage it. ^^;
Re: Doctor Who (14 more episodes commissioned)
What most intrigues me about all this is that, according to Beth Willis during Doctor Who Confidential,
Can't wait for the next episode.
- Spoiler:
- Amy has been a Ganger this entire series. So at what point was she snatched? Was it after the Christmas special but before episode 1?
Can't wait for the next episode.
Re: Doctor Who (14 more episodes commissioned)
It doesn't horribly surprise me that
I'll throw out some conjectures.
Crazy Idea #1:
Crazy Idea #2:
I did really like the explanation of
As to the episode itself,
I did like that the resolution of the story. It was an interesting tragedy, and meaningful in that
- Spoiler:
- Amy's been a 'ganger all this time.
- Spoiler:
- where she is now
- Spoiler:
- if she's the mother of the "time-girl" from the opening two-parter.
I'll throw out some conjectures.
Crazy Idea #1:
- Spoiler:
- She's being used as an incubator to birth a timelord for some purpose. It was mentioned in the opening two-parter that timelord DNA is crazy important and coveted. This would be a way of mass-producing it. This would also nicely explain the time-girl.
Crazy Idea #2:
- Spoiler:
- I want to say the Silents are behind this, but I'm not so sure anymore. The eye-patch woman could be a pawn, but I have my doubts. If Amy was taken between Series 5 and Series 6, the Silents might have been interested in her because she was "flesh", i.e. a new technology. I'm not convinced yet who or what the mastermind could be. I'm hopeful that the next episode will clear up some of Copy-Amy's story, where she first appeared, etc.
I did really like the explanation of
- Spoiler:
- how the woman with the eye-patch kept appearing randomly,
- Spoiler:
- who the frell she is! ><
As to the episode itself,
- Spoiler:
- Slender-Jennifer is behind you!
- Spoiler:
- all the eyes in the wall
- Spoiler:
- moaning, melting bodies.
I did like that the resolution of the story. It was an interesting tragedy, and meaningful in that
- Spoiler:
- half of the guest cast lived, exactly one copy of each.
Re: Doctor Who (14 more episodes commissioned)
Just finished watching the episode A Good Man Goes to War. Spoiler Free discussion for now.
The first 5 minutes were some of the best TV I have ever seen. This entire episode was amazing, and the cliff hanger at the end was very very interesting. There was a lot going on here, and I look forward to having some exciting chats with everyone as soon as we have all had a chance to see it. Chime in if you have!

Re: Doctor Who (14 more episodes commissioned)
I had to watch A Good Man Goes to War twice before everything sank in. It's a very dense episode, there's a lot going on in it. Especially in the last 15 minutes. I'm fairly confident now that I've got a handle on it.
It was one of only two 10/10 episodes for me this year, the other being The Doctor's Wife. Over all this season has been really strong, I can't wait for the back six.
In other news, the Fat Man can breathe a sigh of relief, as the BBC has officially commissioned another 14 episodes:
I hope the fourteen episodes aren't split up over 2012 and 2013, but even if they are, the BBC remains committed to the program. And that's good news all round.

In other news, the Fat Man can breathe a sigh of relief, as the BBC has officially commissioned another 14 episodes:
Sam Hodges, Head of Communications for BBC1, Fiction, Daytime and HD at the BBC has confirmed on Twitter this afternoon that Doctor Who has indeed been commissioned for a further fourteen episodes, with Matt Smith continuing in the role. Head writer Stephen Moffat re-iterated:
14 eps + Matt DEFINITELY. I've got a plan and I'm NOT TELLING YOU WHAT IT IS. Now hush or River shoots you with her Spoiler Gun.
No details on how the next series will be broadcast have been revealed at present, though Doctor Who Magazine confirmed that one will be the now traditional Christmas Special for 2011. Meanwhile the Guardian has reported a BBC spokesperson as saying:
The new commission is a big commitment, not many other shows have such a commitment so far in advance. We do not know yet how many will air in 2012.
The news comes after UK satirical publication Private Eye commented on Twitter that details on the state of Doctor Who production appear in their latest issue; coupled by an interview with Matt Smith in Saturday's Mirror about his Hollywood aspirations, this had promoted widespread speculation in fandom over the series' future.
I hope the fourteen episodes aren't split up over 2012 and 2013, but even if they are, the BBC remains committed to the program. And that's good news all round.

If I am not otherwise engaged, I will definitely be there.
I just hope my Emotional Baggage has the good sense to stay away from Skype that morning, because she won't be seeing A Good Man Goes to War until Saturday evening. She's watching them on BBC America -- bless her soul -- and Memorial Day put them a week behind.
